Ever look to the sky and wonder what is beyond the clouds and stars? Come to the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium and the UWSP Observatory to get a up close and personal view of the universe. They offer special public programs featuring topics such as the Aurora, the Night skies of Fall, and special holiday shows. From the Holiday Inn Hotel & Convention Center start out going south on Amber Ave toward US -10W, turn right onto US-10 W, US-10 W becomes WI-66 S, turn right onto Fremont St, Fremont St becomes 4th Ave, The Allen F. Blocher Planetarium and the UWSP Observatory is on the left.
The Allen F. Blocher Planetarium and the UWSP Observatory are located in the Science Building on the UWSP campus. The planetarium consists of a 7.3m diameter dome that houses a Spitz 1024 projector (installed in 1998). The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building directly above the east main entrance. The planetarium presents public programs through the academic year and during most summers. There is no charge for our public programs. Planetarium programs for groups (schools, scouts, organizations, etc.) can be arranged during our academic year and summer sessions. There is a $15.00 charge per group for these presentations. The observatory is located on the fourth floor of the Science Building and houses a Meade 0.4m telescope. The observatory is open on clear evenings (Monday through Wednesday) when University classes are in session. These facilities are operated and maintained by staff in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UWSP. Dr. Randy W. Olson is the planetarium and observatory director. The planetarium and observatory are closed during the University interim and break periods.
